Newly built house in Edmond Halleylaan
Full house
design
The clients expressed their desire for a stylish, cozy, and vibrant kitchen—a space where they, as a retired couple, could enjoy cooking and gathering with loved ones. To fulfil their vision, we designed a highly functional kitchen on the bright side of the house, utilising three free-standing modular elements. These elements were chosen in the same colour to establish a tone-on-tone scheme and a minimal look that feels relaxed and understated.
The first element consists of a set of high cabinets housing a Miele fridge and freezer combination, as well as a set of ovens, all in the sleek black edition. These cabinets are supported by a metallic leg base structure. On top, open cabinets in walnut offering a stylish display space for cookbooks and personal accessories, adding a touch of warmth and personality to the kitchen design.
Loose and lively
The second element encompasses the wet area of the kitchen, featuring a black sink and tap, a dishwasher, and a drawer set for a small coffee service area. These components are elegantly integrated into the design with 2 cm extended waterfalls and a plinth in Dekton Kadoma Black, providing a seamless and modern aesthetic. Adding to the functionality, a black metallic rail is installed featuring hooks and a light shelf for daily use items. Additionally, a shelf in walnut that complements the wooden structure integrated throughout the kitchen design, adding warmth and continuity of materials to the space.
The third element serves as the main cooking and preparation zone, centered around the island. The island features an L-shaped herb garden embracing one side, while an overlay wooden bar adorns the other side, adding functionality and aesthetic appeal. For the cooktop, we integrated the Bora system with an integrated hood, ensuring efficient ventilation while cooking. The island boasts a striking 6 cm thick countertop in Kadoma Black, contrasting nicely with the sink area. This design choice added a sense of playfulness and introduced varying levels within the kitchen, enhancing both functionality and visual interest.
In response to the client's request for a morning coffee and reading nook beside the window, I crafted a cozy yet functional space that complements the kitchen's ambiance. Located adjacent to the large window overlooking a charming tennis court, this nook offers a serene retreat without overwhelming the room.
To fulfil this desire, I designated a corner of the room for two inviting armchairs, where the clients can unwind with a morning coffee or enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets. The design emphasises simplicity and comfort, providing a tranquil spot for relaxation and contemplation.
To infuse warmth into the expansive space, I incorporated wooden cladding on the wall in a walnut finish, echoing the aesthetic of the kitchen. Additionally, touches of green paint evoke an outdoor atmosphere, creating a seamless connection with the surrounding environment. Beneath the skylight, natural light floods the space, enhancing the tranquil ambiance of this charming nook.
